Coffee cherries are still brought back down to the collection point via scooter. The terrain is so steep that even four-wheel-drive vehicles become useless about 3,000 feet, and you move up on foot. Recently, exporters and other professionals in the coffee industry have been working with the agricultural communities there to foster a resurgence in Specialty Coffee. The volcanic soil on the side of this mountain is very fertile and many other crops, from potatoes to cacao, share space with the coffee. Many specialty coffee roasters from Jakarta, Singapore, and Australia purchase micro-lots from our Java Coffee Farmer. Yearly, the production is about 80-90 tons of green coffee beans from his own coffee estate and small farmers and this keeps expanding. He also collects parchment from small farmers around his estate. He has planted coffee trees in Ciwidey area since 2005.
